| Tim O'Leary Interview LSD is a hallucinogen, which means it can alter a person’s perceptions. This is done by altering the behavior of nerve cells and serotonin, a neurotransmitter. Serotonin helps in the regulation of moods, hunger, sexual behavior, muscle control and perception. The U.S. Army Biochemical Laboratory which now goes by the name U.S. Army Medical Research Institute, also did LSD tests by giving them to unknowing subjects before conducting a battery of tests. Most subjects were soldiers who did not know they were taking LSD. The British equivalent of the CIA, Military Intelligence Section 6, commonly called MI6, also engaged in undercover LSD testing. Their test subjects were advised that they were participating in a medical research on the common cold. However they were administered LSD in the hopes that MI6 would stumble upon a mythical substance that causes uncontrollable honesty. Restitution was awarded to MI6’s previous test subjects in 2006.
