The UK counterpart of the Central Intelligence Agency, Military Intelligence Section 6, commonly called MI6, also initiated undercover LSD testing. Their test subjects were advised that they were participating in a medical study on the common cold. However they were given LSD hoping that MI6 would discover a mythical substance that causes uncontrollable honesty. Compensation was awarded to MI6’s former test subjects in 2006.
The League for Spiritual Discovery was closed by Thomas Leary in the late 60’s due to the crackdown on LSD. Followers of the religion started it up again in 2006, still retaining the original penchant for LSD and other hallucinogens.
“The Death of the Mind” is a multimedia art piece that was created by Thomas Leary. This work attempts to show how LSD consumption affects the brain. Leary went to several campuses with this piece to encourage students to follow their own psychedelic religions.
