"Strawberry Fields Forever" is a song recorded at the end of 1966 by The Beatles, and released at the beginning of 1967. Written by John Lennon, multiple critics have described it as one of the group's best recordings.It is one of the defining works of the psychedelic rock genre and has been covered numerous times.The song gave its name to the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York City's Central Park, near the site of Lennon's murder at The Dakota apartment building.Strawberry Fields Forever è una canzone dei Beatles, pubblicata come singolo nel 1967. Viene considerata una delle migliori del gruppo, ed è uno dei primi esempi di rock psichedelico del gruppo britannico. Nonostante la sua paternità sia comunemente attribuita a John Lennon e Paul McCartney la canzone è stata in realtà composta dal solo Lennon.Egli infatti la scrisse nelle sei settimane di vacanza trascorse con la prima moglie Cynthia ad Almeria, in Andalusia tra il settembre del 1966 e novembre dello stesso anno. McCartney pose soltanto la seconda firma al testo prima che venisse ufficialmente pubblicato, dopo le registrazioni.In realtà Lennon voleva dedicare la canzone, che spesso viene accostata a un trip da LSD, ai bambini dell' orfanotrofio "Strawberry Fields" di Liverpool.L'edificio sorgeva in un grande parco, proprio accanto alla casa natale del cantante che spesso lo visitava e ci andava a giocare. Oggi in onore della canzone una parte del Central Park di New York è nominata "Strawberry Fields Forever" e dedicata al beatle.Fu il primo singolo dei Beatles dopo Love me do a non raggiungere il vertice nelle classifiche di vendita britanniche.L'inizio della registrazione avvenne il 24 novembre 1966 nello studio2 di Abbey Road; il brano fa parte del gruppo delle 16 canzoni registrate durante la sessione di lavoro per il concept album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Le macchine di studio furono una coppia di Studer a 4 tracce J39.Il suono simile al flauto nei primi secondi del brano è dovuto al mellotron suonato da Paul McCartney.Il risultato finale è piuttosto curioso dato che, come rivela Mark Lewisohn nel suo libro "Beatles - Otto anni ad Abbey Road", si tratta di due brani diversi uniti in fase di mixaggio. La prima parte acustica era meglio riuscita in una versione, la seconda orchestrale in un'altra. Il problema era che le due versioni differivano nella tonalità. George Martin risolse il problema aumentando manualmente di circa il 5% la velocità della seconda parte.Lennon giudicava "inascoltabile" il mixaggio di George Martin, tanto che avrebbe voluto reincidere il brano.
