Ergot is a type of fungus that often grows on rye bread. Ergot produces lysergic acid which is made into Lysergic acid diethylamine or LSDs.
A Swiss chemist named Albert Hoffman was the first person to create LSD from lysergic acid in November 16, 1938. He succeeded in distilling the chemical at the Sandoz Laboratories in Basel, Switzerland.
